Manners is a human concept which dogs dont understand.

While there is dog to dog etiquette on what we expect to be sociably acceptable, manners is an entirely human concept that alot of us expect our dogs to know.

What we are misinformed on is the things we expect and see as manners for our dog is actually things that should be trained.

A dalmatian waiting patiently

-Waiting at the door.

-Not eating their food too fast..-

-Not jumping up.

-Not getting on the sofa.

-Not pulling.

The possibilities for training are endless but so many people seem to be confused comparing their dogs to robots or cars, expecting them to come home from the breeder or from the rescue and be the perfect dog. When in reality it is our job to train our dog exactly how we want them and how we deem 'well mannered'.

What i may say is a well mannered dog may be completely different to you. My dogs are allowed on the bed and on the sofa, while others may not accept this and may not want this. But then it is down to those others to train their dog that the sofa or the bed is an off limits area.

The way a dog walks is entirely down to training, while some dogs may be more disposed to walk nicely, or we dont notice a smaller dog pulling as much it does all truly come down to training.

The old school 'oh their friendly' excuse when a dog isnt trained recall properly, all of these are aspects of training which people are majorly confusing with manners.
