Behaviour changes in dogs can be a tell of many things -
- Pain is present
- Emotional distress
- Cognitive decline
- Your dog may be unwell
It is extremely important when we notice a change in our dogs behaviour to rule out all scenarios, into why this change may be present.
Things as simple as food that doesnt agree with them, or suit them could be a factor in the behaviour change. Pain or soreness in muscles could make them grumpy and agitated. A dog who is getting older, and maybe a bit slower may develop behavioural changes.
We need to track any changes we may have made to their routine or life that may affect these things. Less exercise, different foods, new environmental factors at home.
If we have ruled out any changes, then a vet visit or visit to a pet health professional
may be best practice to rule out any physical changes in your dog.
A change in behaviour doesnt have to be a permanent change, if affected by a temporary measure. Its important that we consult different professionals when it comes to our pets health. Utilise nutritionists, physios, vets and other professionals to keep them in top tip condition!
